Students really start coming into their own during the 5th grade. They are developing their personalities and identities. More importantly, they are developing their reading skills. This page ought to help with that. It has all of the worksheets that I've written at the 5th grade level. I used this great site to determine the readability scores of these worksheets, but you should read and approve each of them yourself for quality and appropriateness before giving them to your students. There are many different formulas that one can use to determine the readability score of a text, and the scores that they produce vary quite a bit. I'm using an average of five different scores for these texts. For a better selection of appropriate texts for your 5th grade students, I encourage you to allow texts written two grade levels above and below by clicking the button beneath this text.
