Figurative Language Poem 1: Sketch by Carl Sandburg

This short poem by Carl Sandburg describes ships on the shore and a rolling tide. It uses repetition really nicely as well as personification, hyperbole, metaphor, and alliteration. Suggested reading level for this text: Grade 3-7.
